Memorial Held for Fallen Police Officers

For the 17th year in Rapides Parish, law enforcement agency representatives meet to remember their own. Sheriff William Earl Hilton hosts the service, which dates back to 1962. It’s a chance to honor and remember the men and women who have died in the line of duty.

A joint resolution of congress established the date of May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day. The week surrounding it is National Police Week.

So far this year, 45 law enforcement officials have lost their lives nationwide, one of them in our own state.
