Melinda Myers Receives National Honors
The B.Y. Morrison Communication Award recognizes effective and inspirational communication – through print, radio, television, and/or online media – that advances public interest and participation in horticulture.
“Individuals, organizations, and companies that receive these awards represent the best in American gardening and horticulture,” said AHS Executive Director Tom Underwood. “Through her extensive television, radio, print and online presence Melinda has inspired new generations of gardeners to get their hands dirty and helped experienced gardeners become more successful.”
Myers, who has over 30 years of horticulture experience, a master’s degree in horticulture and was a tenured horticulture instructor, hosts the nationally syndicated Melinda’s Garden Moment segments which air on over 130 TV and radio stations throughout the United States. She also hostsThe Great Courses “How to Grow Anything” DVD series, is a columnist and contributing editor for Birds & Blooms magazine and writes the twice monthly “Gardeners’ Questions” newspaper column. Myers also writes a regular column for Gardening How-To magazine and Wisconsin Gardening magazine. She has written over 20 gardening books, including Can’t Miss Small Space Gardening and appears regularly as a guest expert on various national, regional and local television and radio programs.
“I’m thrilled to receive such an honor and look forward to continuing to share information that will help people be successful in their gardens,” stated Myers. “Gardening has been my passion since I was very young and over the years I’ve been fortunate to work with partners and media outlets that provide me the ability to connect regularly with others who share my love of gardening.”
