McAllister Attends Chamber Luncheon

5th District Congressman Vance McAllister attends a lunch for the Central Louisiana Chamber of Commerce today.  It’s one of his first public appearances since he announced he will not seek re-election.

About a week ago, McAllister said he will finish out his term but will not seek re-election in November. This ended a few weeks of drama surrounding a video of him kissing a staffer, not his wife. The governor, along with prominent GOP officials called on him to resign.

At first he said he’d stay and run for re-election. We asked McAllister about his latest announcement not to run again.

Speculation has moved from McAllister to who might succeed him, including a long list of people who first sought the seat.

McAllister was a political unknown who had never been to Washington and was promoted by the reality show stars of the Duck Dynasty in West Monroe.

It is the largest congressional district in the state and one of the poorest in the nation.
