First up was Alexandria’s first Mardi Gras parade of the season and it just missed the rain on Friday. Hixson Autoplex sponsored the College Cheerleaders and Classic Cars parade Friday afternoon.
The parade held downtown had many attendees despite the fear of rain. The parade honored military members by featuring soldiers from Fort Polk and the National Guard. This year’s Grand Marshall, General Russell Honore, told us how he felt before the parade.
Friday night featured The Louisiana Restaurant Association’s annual Taste of Mardi Gras event and Lauren Partain attended to see how it went.
Children and adults, excited for beads and candy, attended the children’s parade Saturday. The Alexandria Mardi Gras Association hosted the parade for the 18th year.
Baylea Huffman held the title for this years Grand Marshall.
And on Sunday rolled the 21st parade of krewes in Alexandria. It started with 10 floats and 4 krewes and it has grown to 24 floats and 23 krewes. They are all members of the Alexandria Mardi Gras Association. The association stages the parade, which draws thousands from surrounding parishes.
The parade grand marshal is Kyle Steven Templin, an actor from Tioga. There were plenty of beads and other throws for the crowds, especially the children.
