Water aerobic classes are offered on campus five days a week and this fun, high intensity workout is designed to give participants increased flexibility, strength, endurance and cardiovascular health.
Dr. Julie Gill and Dr. Melissa Parks head up the water exercise program with both holding degrees in kinesiology and national fitness certifications. Throughout the class, they remain on the pool deck in order to provide instruction and add an extra layer of safety.
The class is taught in the shallow end of the pool and is ideal for those of all age ranges and fitness levels. Throughout the workout, a full-body stretch for flexibility is incorporated along with cardio fitness, strength and endurance activities, balance and relaxation activities.
Participants can wear any type of workout attire including exercise tops and biking shorts.
Participants say that the class is great not only for an increase in energy, muscle mass and strength, but also for the friendships made in class. All highly recommend the program to others who want a good workout or relief from such ailments as arthritis and fibromyalgia.
Aquacise meets every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the pool in the Fitness Center on the LSUA campus from 9:00am-10:00am. AquaFit meets on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 2:30pm-3:30pm.
