A student from Menard High has been named a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program. The program, which started in 1955, is a competition where students are required to submit essays, score highly on the SAT and have a recommendation from a high school official.
T.J. Matthews, who is a senior, was chosen for his extraordinary performance on the preliminary SAT. We spoke to him about his plans after graduation.
Out of an estimated 3.3 million high school graduates this year, only 15,000 will receive this award.
