Local State Trooper Involved in Shooting

A state trooper is involved in a shooting.

He was on routine patrol about 2:30 this afternoon at Highway 1 South and Old River Road. He stopped a car with more than one person inside. One of them hit the trooper in the head, leaving him dizzy. Others in the car fired at him, and he was able to return fire, knocking out one of their windows as they fled.

However, it appears nobody was shot. Authorities confirm the trooper is not suffering any life-threatening injuries, but he is being treated for the head wound.

The name of the trooper is not yet being released, but troopers are looking for an older model Chevy Caprice, a 90’s vehicle, they believe. It has dark-tinted windows and a temporary tag in the back window. The driver is an African-American man wearing a yellow shirt.

If you know anything, call state police.
