We’re marking the 70th anniversary of D-Day, when Americans and their allies landed in Normandy to help liberate France from Nazi Germany.
A D-day observance was held here today at the holocaust memorial, which recalls the unique role Alexandria played in D-day. Plaques tell the story of how the invasion was practiced here with the Louisiana maneuvers. Some historians insist the first plans were made by Generals Dwight Eisenhower, Omar Bradley and George Patton in the Mirror Room of the historic Hotel Bentley.
Now, a new generation of soldiers is working to keep America safe.
Camp Beauregard was instrumental in the Louisiana maneuvers. This memorial is a way of keeping the D-day story alive 70 years later.
