Legislative Session Almost Over, No Budget Deal Met

The annual Louisiana legislative session is almost done, but the state does not have a budget. Officials say this has happened before.

Lawmakers are deadlocked over how to accommodate Governor Bobby Jindal’s pledge to never raise taxes. Senators have voted to go along with a gimmick, which fills the hole for higher education, but lets Governor Jindal keep his promise. But house members have balked. And the governor has pledged to veto revenue-raising bills unless lawmakers go along with his plan.

The current session must end by 6 o’clock tonight night.
