LC classes to resume Sept. 7; most residential halls to reopen beginning Sept. 1

PINEVILLE –Louisiana College has extended its closure due to Hurricane Laura through the week and will resume all undergraduate and graduate fall semester courses Monday, Sept. 7.

Students living in residence halls—with the exception of Church Hall—may return to campus beginning Tuesday, Sept. 1. Church Hall remains without electricity, and as soon as it is restored, residents will be notified. Students should contact Hannah Nyman, director of Residence Life and Campus Engagement, at 318-487-7154 or Hannah.nyman@lacollege.edu to arrange a time to return.

“Electricity and water have been restored to all residence halls except Church Hall, and tree and debris removal is ongoing,” said President Dr. Rick Brewer. “We want to ensure a safe return to campus.

“We recognize some of our students, faculty and staff are still without the basic necessities of life, and those will be addressed on an individual basis,” he said. “We will continue with the hybrid teaching model, and students who do not have Internet can utilize one of the four campus computer labs.”

Graduate students in the School of Education will be contacted via the Canvas student portal next week by professors, said Dr. Amy Craig, dean of the School of Education.

“Due dates will be adjusted and provisions will be made on an individual basis as needed to ensure that students are able to successfully complete their coursework and field experiences,” Craig added.

Craig may be reached at amy.craig@lacollege.edu.

Students in the MSW program should contact MSW Program Director Sheri Duffy at sheri.duffy@lacollege.edu with any questions or concerns.

“If unable to attend classes, please notify your professors and we will work with you on an individual basis to develop an alternative plan,” Duffy said. “We will help you through this challenging time to ensure you successfully complete your courses and field. If you have any questions concerning your field practicum or field hours, please contact Vanessa Graves at 318-229-3232.”

Brewer said students should continue to monitor LC official social media, website, email, Wildcat Alerts and local news for updated information.
