“Land of the Jaguar” Opening Soon

NewJaguarThe Land of the Jaguar at the Alexandria Zoo is about to be officially open.  This is a renovation of the South American area.  It’s the largest project the zoo has undertaken since the Louisiana Habitat exhibit.  It encompasses almost three acres.  This is the oldest area of the zoo, which dates back to 1926.

Tonight, Friends of the Alexandria Zoo (FOTAZ) hosted a gala for the many who have helped through the years.

The grand opening for the public is Saturday from nine to five.  There will be cultural food, dance, and ceremonial performances by Mayan artists.

The stars of the exhibit are a pair of jaguars which the zoo intends to breed. Click below to view additional scenes from the Alexandria Zoo.
