Kent House Hosts KLAX-TV Staff for Open-Hearth Cooking

KentHouseLunch2A group of volunteers at Kent House in Alexandria are practicing open-hearth cooking.

They cook in a 19th century kitchen, away from the big house, which was common practice in those days for safety reasons.  The seasonal recipes are also taken from the original owners of Kent House.

KentHouseLunch1KLAX-TV General Manager, Ken Nolan, and other staff members enjoyed the open-hearth meal today.  A century-old recipe for cornbread, which incorporates herbs grown at Kent House, was one of our favorite sides.

And don’t forget, Herb Day is slated for April 5th.  That’s when you can visit the Kent House and buy spring seeds for your garden.
