Instruments A comin’ to Pineville Junior High Thanks to Tipitina’s Foundation and Funktoberfest
On Thursday, August 24, 2017 the classrooms of Pineville Jr. High will be filled with more than the normal back to school sounds, thanks to the local outdoor festival Funktoberfest and Tipitina’s Foundation Instruments A Comin’ program.
Tipitina’s Foundation Instruments A Comin’ will present Pineville Jr. High the instrument donation on Thursday, August 24 at 4:00pm. This donation is made possible through the Instruments A Comin’ program which has provided more than 3,500 instruments to students of Louisiana public schools. Oliver Doxtater, Director of Development, is appreciative for the partnership with Tipitina’s Foundation, Lee Gwinn and Funktoberfest. “We could not be prouder to place instruments in the hands of children in Central Louisiana. This instrument donation to Pineville Jr. High would not be possible without the amazing support of the residents of Central Louisiana and the continued success of Funktoberfest.”
Pineville Jr. High is the fourth school to receive instruments from the Tipitina’s Foundation Instruments A Comin’. The Pineville Jr. High band is under the leadership of James Lormand who is honored and grateful to be this year’s recipient. “This award, will allow us to continue to put quality instruments in the hands of our students and continue to grow the band program for years to come.”
Funktoberfest Executive Producer, Lee Gwinn knows the direct impact music has on a community. Gwinn also owns Spirits Food and Friends with his wife Tracey. Spirits Food and Friends is a longtime supporter of local musicians, and hosts original bands from beyond the city limits. When asked about the partnership of Funktoberfest and Instruments A Comin’, Gwinn stated, “I have been completely overwhelmed by our community’s individual and corporate support of Funktoberfest the past several years.
The event has allowed us to raise almost $25,000 in our partnership with Tipitina’s Foundation Instruments A Comin’ project for local schools and their respective band programs. Entering our third year, the Funktoberfest committee has set lofty goals for our donation this year. We hope that Funktoberfest 2017 is bigger and better this year and for years to come. Thanks to all that make it happen.”
