Standoff with Armed Suspect on Dixie Lane

Press Release – On September 6, around 8:45 am, APD responded to a report of an assault in the 5800 block of Dixie Lane. Upon arrival, officers encountered a woman who said that her son had tried to take her prescription medication from her and then became violent. According to statements given to officers, the suspect first grabbed a knife and threatened her and others in the house, then grabbed a shotgun and loaded it. The suspect then hit her with the gun and would not let her leave, saying he was going to kill her, according to the statements. Eventually, she and others were able to exit the house and call police.

Officers entered the house and were able to establish verbal contact with the suspect, who said he would shoot if officers approached. Officers then established a perimeter and contacted Special Response Team and Hostage Negotiation Team members. At approximately 9:15 am, an officer who made phone contact with the suspect was able to get the suspect to surrender and exit the house, at which point he was taken into custody without incident.

Israel Mayeux, 18, of Alexandria, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Assault with a Firearm, two counts of False Imprisonment, and two counts of Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer with a Firearm. He was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center.
