Great American Smoke Out Today
Today is the Great American Smoke Out and LSU Alexandria sponsored a breakfast to mark the national event. It was an educational event for students to learn about the major health issues plaguing Central Louisiana and how smoking is associated with them. They also learned that state law requires schools to provide smoking cessation programs for students.
Rapides Regional Medical Center set up an advocacy table for the event. Experts were there to help patients and staff looking to put their cigarettes out for the last time. Today, they handed out brochures and answered questions about how to quit.
Hospitals, even more so than other institutions, feel the weight of the smoking problem. They deal first-hand with the consequences of smoking, every day.
