Fire Destroys House in Alexandria

House FireHouse Fire

A late morning fire destroys a house in the Garden District in Alexandria.

It broke out at the corner of Myrtle and Bush Street.

The flames quickly spread next door to a carriage house, behind 1407 Bush Avenue.  Dark black smoke could be seen throughout the Alexandria Garden District as firefighters brought the blaze under control.  Fortunately, nobody was hurt.

The cause of the fire at this time is unknown, and it did not pose any problem for the nearby Rugg Elementary School.  Another carriage house nearby suffered smoke damage.

The home that caught fire is a total loss; it all happened about 11:30 this (Friday) morning.
