We are excited to announce the dates of our First Annual Exotic Wildlife Fair this Memorial Day week-end, Saturday, May 26th and Sunday, May 27th at Lake Juneau Safari Resort in Moreauville (Hamburg) in central Louisiana.  Our fair is the first of it’s kind in CenLa! Not typically open to the public, Lake Juneau Safari Resort offers a piece of Africa right here in the swamps of Louisiana.

Our park is a unique preserve that encompasses approximately 1,500 acres rich in flora and wildlife. Our guided wildlife tours, petting zoo,  fishing piers, horseback riding, walking trails, and much more provide an outdoor experience like nothing you have ever experienced!

Come visit, bring the entire family, young and old to enjoy the beauty of our incredible resort.  We promise you a fun filled family experience you’ll never forget!

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL AT FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH PINEVILLE

First Baptist Church Pineville invites area children to Amazing Wonders Aviation VBS from June 4 to June 8.

Each evening from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. children will enjoy fun activities, crafts, games and more. This year’s theme is based on an around-the-world plane trip with stops at places like the Great Barrier Reef, Victoria Falls, the Grand Canyon and the Matterhorn.

Parents are encouraged to pre-register their children at www.fbcpineville.net. Registration will also be available at the door. VBS is for children four years old (entering kindergarten) through sixth grade.

Narrated by New Orleans native and Grammy and Emmy-winner Harry Connick, Jr Louisiana Public Broadcasting’s new documentary Louisiana: 200 Years of Statehood highlights the major events that have occurred during the last two centuries since the state joined the union on April 30, 1812.

From the actual decision to join the Union to the present, Louisiana has had a colorful history featuring massive floods, devastating hurricanes, the Civil War, unique cuisine, and the creation of Jazz, along with charismatic and sometimes controversial figures like former Governors Huey and Earl Long and Edwin Edwards. With the recent elections of Kathleen Blanco, the first woman governor in the state’s history, and Bobby Jindal, the nation’s first Indian American governor, the state has entered a new era of politics.

From the Battle of New Orleans during the War of 1812 through World War II, Louisiana has had a rich military history. The state hosted the largest war games in American history to prepare troops for World War II and Andrew Higgins created the boats that were used in D-Day and other major amphibious assaults during the war.

From the creation of Jazz to Cajun, Zydeco, blues, New Orleans Rhythm and Blues and country music, the musical diversity in the state is reflective of the state’s population and culture. It’s a culture that has produced such music legends as Louis Armstrong and Fats Domino along with contemporary country stars like Tim McGraw and Trace Atkins.

The documentary was produced by LPB’s Tika Laudun and Al Godoy, who created the duPont Columbia Award-winning six-part series Louisiana: A History. Underwriting for the documentary was provided by the Louisiana Bicentennial Commission, The Reilly Family Foundation,  Entergy Louisiana. Cane River Green Market to Host Free Zumba Class and  Belly Dancing Demonstration

The Cane River Green Market (CRGM) will continue its summer season on Saturday, May 19 with an exciting array of activities in celebration of National Salsa Month and National Physical Activity and Sports Month.

Natchitoches’ local farmer’s market will take place every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon on the downtown riverbank in the Natchitoches Historic District through July 28.

Featured activities this Saturday will include a bellydancing demonstration, a free Zumba class, free salsa samples while supplies last, and a kid’s coloring station. Live musical entertainment will be provided by Uptown Jazz.

The bellydancing demonstration will be presented by the Port Belly Project (PBP) of Shreveport, La. from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. They perform Tribal Fusion Bellydance with “Tribal” meaning dancing as a group and “Fusion” meaning the melding of dance and costuming from many different cultures. From Old World Folk to Modern American Fusion, the PBP puts on a family-oriented show featuring a wide array of dance styles and music. The free Zumba class will be offered every Saturday during the month of May from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. in celebration of National Salsa Month. Zumba is a Latin-inspired dance fitness workout. The class will be instructed by Kimberly Davis who regularly teaches Zumba at Northwestern State University’s Wellness, Recreation, and Activity Center. Participants of all ages and fitness levels are welcome to attend and encouraged to bring water and a towel.

In addition to all of the family fun activities, market customers can choose from a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables from Green Market produce vendors. Customers can also enjoy a selection of value-added products including farm fresh eggs, baked goods, jams, jellies, pickles, honey, fresh flowers, herbs and much more. Hand-crafted items are also available including jewelry, woodwork, stained glass and other items.

The market will feature special programming and activities throughout the season including regular live musical performances, children’s activities, speakers and demonstrations.
