Family Counseling Closes

Family Counseling, which has offered social services in Alexandria for almost a 100 years, is closed.

Friends of the non-profit say money is to blame.

The agency has offered anger management, group support and individual counseling over the decades. It’s been a go-to agency for judges and the school board when seeking help for people who are in trouble.

The board had scheduled a meeting this afternoon, but the dozen or so employes have been notified the doors are closed.

The agency famously helped civil war veterans get their benefits and co-founded what is now known as the Doll and Toy Fund.
