Smithfield Fair will return to the A-Town Evenings concert series, sponsored by the Arts Council of Central Louisiana, at 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 11, 2018. Based on last year’s response, this year’s performance has been moved to the Coughlan-Saunders Performing Arts Center lobby. Tickets are $15 each, which includes a special CD package, and can be reserved here: http://www.louisiana-arts.org/performing-arts-series.php. (Advanced reservations are recommended.)
Smithfield Fair is now in its 46th year of performances, having started as Laughter in Pensacola in 1973, changed it’s name to Charmer in 1977, and to Smithfield Fair in 1989. The group has released 31 albums – the newest of which is EVERMORE, recorded with Danny Smith at The Hole Recording in Alexandria, a few steps from the Red River. The current and longest-running line-up is Bob Smith (vocals, bass, percussion), Jan Smith (vocals, accordion, piano, guitar) and Dudley-Brian Smith (vocals, guitar, mandolin) and brings a warmth of harmony and a wealth of variety to its roots-oriented folk-pop. Their music receives regular radio airplay throughout the world on conventional, internet and satellite formats which include Pandora, Sirius/XM, and podcasts. The May 11 performance will provide a number of “homecoming” surprises for Cenla audiences.
Further upcoming for Smithfield Fair will be a live appearance on Red River Radio at 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 7, 2018 and the Louisiana Folklife Festival in Natchitoches on July 20 and 21.
