AT THE LOUISIANA STATE ARBORETUM
VILLE PLATTE – Everyone is invited, rain or shine, to a fun filled day all about reptiles and amphibians on Saturday, July 14, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Louisiana State Arboretum in Ville Platte.
Louisiana Amphibian and Reptile Enthusiasts (L.A.R.E.) will be on hand with live native reptiles and amphibians. Schoolhouse Reptiles will have a petting zoo of both native and exotic reptiles. Lindy Muse, a volunteer with L.A.R.E. and a herpetology researcher with Wetland and Aquatic Research Center, will be leading us on a herping adventure along the Arboretum trails at 1:00 PM. Kid’s crafts and activities will be available all day.
The Louisiana State Arboretum is a 601-acre preservation area providing 5.5 miles of hiking trails amid some of Louisiana’s most magnificent trees. Nature programs on varying subjects from plants and animals to astronomy are offered throughout the year. The Arboretum Nature Center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $3 per person to enter Chicot State Park. Once inside Chicot, the Arboretum is free.
The Arboretum Nature Center is located six miles north of Ville Platte on La. 3042, within Chicot State Park or three miles south of La. 106.
