New Orleans Black Chorale at NSU
February 3 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Dennis Montgomery III will be guest organist at the performance of the New Orleans Black Chorale at Northwestern State University, an event that will commemorate Black History Month with a musical concert entitled “Down by the Riverside: Celebrating Ancestries, Lives and Legacies.”
The concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, February 3rd, in Magale Recital Hall.
A native of Shreveport, Montgomery was nine years old when he began playing music at Stonewall Baptist Church and St. Mary’s Baptist Church in the Shreveport-Bossier City area. Both his parents, Dennis Montgomery II and Eddie Mae Montgomery, were musicians.
Montgomery entered Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1983. Since his graduation in 1988, he has been a full-time faculty member at Berklee and director for the Berklee College of Music Reverence Gospel Ensemble for 30 years.
The New Orleans Black Chorale is dedicated to performing music from African American composers, especially American Negro Spirituals.
Tickets to the concert at NSU are $20 per person or $35 per couple. Students with ID will be admitted for $10. Group rates for 20 or more are available. Sponsorships are also available at the $500, $250 and $100 levels.
Seating is limited so concert-goers are encouraged to reserve tickets early by contacting NSU’s Creole Heritage Center at email@example.com or (318) 357-6685.
