Kent House Bug Day
June 2 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
Press Release – Alexandria, LA – On Saturday, June 2, the United States Forest Service and Kent Plantation House will be hosting the 11th Annual Kent House Bug Day. This event which begins at 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. celebrates all things insects and their relatives. In addition to insects, the Cenla Amphibian and Reptile Enthusiasts (C.A.R.E.) will highlight insectivores, animals that eat insects, at their booth.
Opportunities abound to touch, see, hear, and even eat insects! Games, educational handouts, and crafts will be available for all to enjoy. The Cenla Beekeepers Club will also be on hand to share live honey bees in a demonstration box. Night insects, Big Bugs, Little Bugs, Pollinators, Louisiana Insects, and Enemies of the Forest are additional stations to experience at Bug Day. Two area pest control companies will also be present to handle any questions you may have about household pests. This is truly an event for all ages.
Admission is $1.00 for ages 3 and up and includes access to all of the stations, crafts, and a movie. Concessions are available, as well as specially-priced “pet bug rocks” for $2.00, created by local artist, Dahnell Bell. And of course, Smokey Bear will be at the event with the Kisatchie National Forest and Southern Research Station. Make plans to come to Kent Plantation House at 3601 Bayou Rapides Road, Alexandria, LA, 71303 on Saturday.
