RED RIVER CHORALE PRESENTS “JOYFUL CELEBRATIONS” MARCH 14, 2017
On Tuesday evening, March 14, 2017, the Red River Chorale will present “Joyful
Celebrations,” the third concert of its eleventh season, at 7:30 P.M. at
Emmanuel Baptist Church in Alexandria.
The concert features classical music composed by great masters for grand
celebrations, such as coronations and joyful religious celebrations. The
Chorale will perform two of George Frideric Handel’s “Coronation Anthems,”
composed for the coronation of King George II in 1727. These celebratory works
are actually multi-movement classical works that show Handel’s tremendous
musical versatility. Also included on the program are Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s
exuberant “Regina Coeli,” written in 1779 celebrating Mary, the “Queen of
Heaven,” and Norman Dello Joio’s more contemporary “A Jubilant Song,” a work
written in 1946 that is the personification of pure joy, adapted from the poetry
of Walt Whitman.
Tickets to “Joyful Celebrations” are $15 for adults and $5 for students. They
may be purchased at redriverchorale.com, ticket-central.org, at Red River Music,
from any Chorale member, or at the door. For more information, call (318)
