 Downtown at Sundown Plans Announced

The City of Lake Charles announces plans for the 20th annual Downtown at Sundown concert series for four consecutive Fridays from 6 to-9 p.m. beginning on May 18. Activities will take place on Ryan Street in front of Historic City Hall and the Parish Courthouse. Beverage sales will benefit the Literacy Council of SWLA. The street-fair format will feature food and beverage, table top galleries, merchandise vendors, activities for kids as well as a variety of music. Lawn chairs are welcome; however, ice coolers and pets are prohibited. In case of rain, the concerts will take place inside the Lake Charles Civic Center.

Event Director, Denise Fasske said, “The original mission of the event was to bring people downtown with the hopes of revitalization. Now, it brings thousands of residents and visitors to experience Downtown Lake Charles as a thriving urban community.”

The series kicks off with The Tugboats on May 18; Rusty Metoyer & Zydeco Krush on May 25; The Lost Bayou Ramblers on June 1; and the series wraps up with The Flamethrowers on June 8.

Two special occasions will be celebrated during Downtown at Sundown this year. Last year commemorated the 150th anniversary of Lake Charles. The Sesquicentennial Time Capsule will be buried on the grounds of Historic City Hall during the concert on May 25. The time capsule is scheduled to be unearthed in the 2067 bicentennial year of the City. On June 1, we will celebrate the 50th anniversary of CODOFIL | Council for the Development of French in Louisiana with a special program.

This year’s event is supported by corporate sponsorships from The American Press, Capital One Bank, CITGO Petroleum, Delta Downs Racetrack & Casino, Entergy, Lake Charles Toyota, Merrill Lynch and Stockwell Sievert Law Firm.
