EMT Training Course to Begin Monday, June 2 in Natchitoches
NATCHITOCHES — The Natchitoches Fire Department (NFD) is now accepting applications for enrollment in its new EMT program. The EMT training class will begin on Monday, June 2, 2014 at the Natchitoches Fire Training Center.
NFD along with the Northwest Louisiana Technical College (NWLTC) Natchitoches Campus and EMS Instructor Monica Frazier have teamed up to deliver an EMT Class in the City of Natchitoches. NFD offers training that serves real needs in Natchitoches and surrounding areas. The EMT program prepares graduates to be qualified to apply for employment with ambulance services, fire/rescue services, acute emergency facilities and industrial safety officers.
EMTs administer first aid and/ or life support care to sick or injured persons in pre-hospital settings. They perform emergency treatment procedures such as airway management, heart monitoring, and spinal and extremity immobilization. They must exercise considerable judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. During the pre-hospital treatment, they communicate with dispatchers and treatment center personnel in order to arrange reception of victims and receive instructions for further treatment. EMTs are trained to operate equipment, such as automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and bag valve mask resuscitators, in life support environments.
The class will begin June 2, 2014 at 6:00pm at the Natchitoches Fire Training Center located on the NWLTC Campus at 6593 Hwy 1 Bypass in Natchitoches. The class is scheduled for Monday and Thursday nights from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. with an occasional Saturday class. Books are included in tuition and a payment plan is available.
