Disposal of Grass Clippings & Yard Trimmings Ordinance

CITY OF NATCHITOCHES ANNOUNCES ENFORCEMENT OF ORDINANCE REGARDING DISPOSAL OF GRASS CLIPPINGS AND YARD TRIMMINGS

NATCHITOCHES – In accordance with the Federal Clean Water Act (1972), the City of Natchitoches will begin strict enforcement of Section 28-1 of the Code of Ordinances for the City of Natchitoches, which reads:

“It shall be unlawful for any person to place, drop or cause in any manner a nuisance to exist on any street or alley or gutter, paved or unpaved, open ditch, storm drain, catch basin, including all sidewalks, banquettes and neutral or planting areas in the city.”

This applies to grass, weeds, shrub cuttings and waste, as well as any other material and/or debris defined as a nuisance by the ordinance.

Grass clippings, yard trimmings, leaves, etc. cannot remain on city sidewalks, streets, storm drains or gutters after mowing or other yard maintenance.  Grass clippings and yard trimmings are not to be blown into the street and/or gutters and must be bagged.  Brush and branches must be bundled and cannot be larger than 50 pounds in weight, 3 inches in diameter and 4 feet in length.

Violations of this ordinance may result in fines of up to $100 for first offenses; fines of up to $200 and/or 10 days in jail for second offenses; and fines of up to $500 and/or 30 days in jail for third offenses.
