From around May 30th until June 30th , 2014, the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office has responded to several complaints in the Latanier Community and South Alexandria/Woodworth area in reference to thefts of four wheelers and side by side UTVs. Detectives say the suspects would go to residents at night and steal the ATV/UTV’s and the victims would not realize it was missing until the next day or even days later.
During the investigation, Detectives were able to develop a suspect, identified as Bubbie Jules Waters of Lecompte, LA. Warrants were obtained for Waters arrest and on August 5th, Detectives tracked Waters to a local hotel where he was taken into custody without incident. Detectives also recovered one of the stolen ATV’s at Waters residence on Chickamaw Rd in Lecompte. Detectives believe Waters was stealing the ATV’s and them stripping them down and selling the parts.
“Thefts of ATV’s have been on the rise all over the state. Our Detectives have been working with other agencies in solving some of these ATV thefts” said Sheriff William Earl Hilton. “We want to remind the public to take precautions and make it as difficult as possible for someone to just come in your yard and steal your ATV.”
Waters was booked for 1 count of Unauthorized Use of a Movable, 2 counts of Theft Over $1500 and 3 counts of Criminal Trespass. Waters remains in the Rapides Parish Detention Center on a $6000.00 bond. Detectives say the investigation is still ongoing.
