A Covington legislator backs off on his own bill to prohibit fees on plastic and paper bags. The state representative deferred his own bill after he started hearing complaints. Paul Hollis wanted to stop any local governments from charging fees for plastic and paper bags.
Hollis’ late father, Senator Ken Hollis, was an Alexandria native.
An area lobbyist for the forestry industry, Buck Vandersteen, was for the bill, even though he acknowledged paper is better than plastic for his industry.
