A privately owned transfer center for detainees is officially opened at England Airpark today.
It’s operated by the Geo Group, a Florida-based company. The company describes itself as the world’s largest provider of correctional, detention and community re-entry services. They have more than 78-thousand beds and run a detention facility in nearby Jena in LaSalle Parish.
While in the area today, Senator Landrieu gives her endorsement to Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo in his bid for congress.
Both are democrats, and Mayo is the lone African American in the crowded race for the fifth district congressional seat, now held by Vance McAllister.

Rapides deputies make an arrest in a criminal sexual conduct case.
This is 44-year-old Tully Timothy Guidry of Lake Arthur in Jeff Davis Parish. The complaint was filed on September 29th and deputies say Guidry was located in a neighboring parish’s jail under arrest for a similar crime.

A 28-year-old Alexandria man is arrested for armed robbery. Raynell Hicks is accused of holding up a man yesterday near Wilmore’s Food Mart on MacArthur Drive.
The victim told police he was robbed at gunpoint by two men. Hicks was later found on Virginia Street.

Critical audits out of Baton Rouge for government bodies include the Louisiana 4H Foundation. Auditors warn some boards are not meeting regularly and are neglecting routine documentation. This includes Allen, Catahoula, and Sabine parishes.
