Former Parish Employee Arrested for Fuel Theft

Rapides deputies arrest a former parish employee for theft of fuel. He’s 43-year-old Kurt David Nugent of Ball.
Deputies say the complaint dates from a couple of weeks ago. Reportedly, Nugent would use a fuel card for his personal vehicle. He’s charged with felony theft.

One Dead, Another Injured in Accidental Electrocutions

One is dead and another injured this afternoon, apparently after accidental electrocutions. It happened off Highway 1200 near Boyce.
Rapides deputies say the two were working in a field near a piece of farm equipment.
No names have been released yet.

Sanders’ Mother Testifies in Court Today

The mother of 57-year-old Thomas Sanders says she wants her son to live, even though he’s convicted of capital murder. Mary Boothe Sanders smiled at her son during her testimony, recalling that he was a good son.

Penalty Phase in Sanders Case Begins Tomorrow

The penalty phase of the Thomas Sanders case in Alexandria Federal Court begins tomorrow.
He has been convicted of kidnapping and slaying a 12-year-old girl. The prosecution is asking for the death penalty.
The jurors who decided his guilt last week will not decide if he lives or dies.

Natchitoches Police Search for Missing Man

Pictured: Ronald Hayes, found safely last night, but an argument this morning left him with a stab wound.

Natchitoches police need help locating a missing man.
54-year-old Ronald Wayne Hayes was reported missing by his wife. Shawn Hayes says she dropped her husband off at work on Northern Street Friday morning and has not heard from him since. He’s 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs about 185 pounds.

2 Arrested for Drug Distribution

Alexandria police arrest two men for drug distribution. Central Louisiana Safe Streets Task Force agents say Tavis Jenkins and Eric Parker Junior were taken into custody at the Riverwynd Apartments.
Agents say the search resulted in suspected drugs, an assault rifle and large amount of cash. Both are charged with distribution and paraphernalia, and Jenkins faces [...]

LSUA Enrollment Numbers Up 21%

The numbers are in for fall enrollment at LSU of Alexandria. The school has made a big push in the last few years to increase the number of students who choose this school.

AEX Receives Large Federal Grant

5 area airports will be receiving almost 10 million dollars in federal funds.
The biggest share goes to Alexandria International, some 7 million dollars. The rest is allotted among Allen Parish, Leesville and Marksville’s airports.
