Witness Found in Hineston Bank Robbery

Rapides Deputies find a witness in connection to last week’s bank robbery in Hineston.  The Sabine State Bank was held up, but nobody was harmed.

Authorities have not said if there is a connection between the Hineston case and today’s robbery at Chase Bank.

The Chase Bank on Jackson Street Extension was robbed this morning.
Alexandria police say at around 9:30, a man handed the clerk a note demanding money, and then took off, running toward the Parliament Street area.  No one was hurt.

Officials say Gerald Kees Phillips Piper owes almost $25,000. He is listed among the worse offenders, but there are many more with bills past due totaling more than 1.3 billion dollars.

Murder Conviction in Alexandria

James Craig Johnson, Jr
James Craig Johnson, Jr. of Alexandria was found guilty of murdering Jacqueline Bazert.
Prosecutor Monique Metoyer says Johnson stabbed Bazart more than 139 times on 15th Street in January of 2012.
Metoyer also says Johnson will be sentenced to life in prison on November 22nd

Bank Robbery in Hineston Today

The Sabine State Bank in Hineston is held up at gunpoint this morning with nobody hurt.
Authorities say 2 men with handguns entered the bank and demanded money.  No injuries have been reported.  Witnesses say the 2 men left in a car, headed toward Alexandria.

Local Man Sentenced for Child Pornography

A man from Ball is sentenced today to almost 6 years in federal prison for child pornography.  24-year-old Alexander Maciver will also be required to register as a sex offender.  He pleaded guilty in April.  Authorities found more than 10 images of child pornography and one video on his home laptop.

VA Medical Center Expands

The VA Medical Center in Pineville uses the time leading up to Veterans Day to unveil better services for patients.
The outpatient building has been expanded, adding nearly 40 thousand square feet.  It includes ten new clinics, a larger lobby area, as well as improvements to the outpatient pharmacy.

Fort Polk Holds Veterans Day Ceremonies

Veterans Day is Monday, but ceremonies are being held at Fort Polk today.  The traditional ceremony honoring veterans is co-hosted by the Joint Readiness Training Center.  The speakers include the base commander Brigadier General William Hickman and 4th District Congressman John Fleming of Minden.
