Pineville Boil Advisory Lifted

The boil advisory for some portions of Pineville water is lifted. It was imposed earlier this week after an 18-inch water main broke on the grounds of Central State Hospital.

Rapides Libraries To Gain New Director

The new Rapides Parish library director is Laura Ellen Ayres, who will succeed Steve Rogge as of July 1st. She’s currently serving as assistant director and has been with the system 32 years.
Rogge is retiring.
The library board voted to hire her this afternoon.

Students Participate in Mock Crash


It’s graduation time and that means high school students are out partying.
Today, students at Oak Hill High School participated in a mock crash. That’s with the help of Rapides Regional Medical Center.
Various law enforcement and safety organizations also assisted with the drama to show students what can happen when judgment is impaired on the highway.

Grant For RiverFete Delayed


The City of Alexandria will have to wait until next month to get approval for a 45-thousand dollar grant from GAEDA to help pay for RiverFĂȘte. The group did not have a quorum and could not do business.
GAEDA is the Greater Alexandria Economic Development Authority, funded by a tax on hotels and motels.

Boyce Man Arrested Again


A Boyce man arrested for stealing checks is arrested again for more forgeries and theft of a canoe. It happened May 8th in the 100-block of Clifton Road.
Deputies added charges to Scott Tyler, after finding the canoe at a local scrap yard.

State Police Warn of Area Scam

State police warn of a scam in the area. It tries to get money from victims who are told an arrest warrant has been issued for them or family members.
The caller pretends to be a state trooper or another law enforcement agent. The victim is told to pay for the warrant or face arrest.

Police Find Missing Juvenile

Alexandria Police say they’ve found a missing juvenile and returned her to her family. E’mya Osteen had been missing for a couple of weeks. Police say she was found Sunday.

School Board To Meet To Discuss New Charter School

The Rapides Parish School Board will conduct a special meeting tomorrow afternoon at five on a proposed new charter school for this area. It’s the Alexandria Charter Academy, which seeks to be a type one charter. Public input is invited.

Water Main Break in Pineville Over the Weekend


Pineville city workers worked through the night to restore water to Central State Hospital, Pineville High and surrounding streets.
A water main break yesterday shut off water to the school and customers from line at Claiborne back to Highway 165 and to Washington Street.

2 Arrested, 3rd Still Sought in Steel Theft


Pineville Police arrest 2 men and are seeking a third for the theft of some 20 thousand dollars in carbon steel plate from Hayes Manufacturing.
Bradley Ryder and Justin Lawrence, both of Deville were arrested. Ryder is charged with burglary and conspiracy. Lawrence is accused of burglary.
