Change of Command Ceremony Held Today

The 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, conducts its Change of Command Ceremony today.
Colonel Mario Diaz and Command Sergeant Major Noe Salinas relinquish command to Colonel Guy Jones and Command Sergeant Major Michael Ferrusi.
Diaz and salinas have been in command for about two and a half years.

Rapides deputies say an undercover narcotics operation nets 6 arrests. Anthony Green, J.B. Watts III, Russell Prenell, and Shonda Fisher of Alexandria were arrested. Sylvia Davis and Tyrus Gable, also of Alexandria, were also taken into custody.

APD Make 2 Arrests in Neighborhood Burglary Cases

Alexandria Police make two arrests in break-in’s that happened last week in the Ansley, Porter and Cherokee Village neighborhoods. Joseph Mathews of Alexandria and Marshall Dougherty of Pineville were arrested.
Police say detectives worked into the night and early this morning to connect the two suspects to the burglaries.

Kiwanis Honors Law Enforcement Agent of the Year

Today a local civic club honors the law enforcement agent of the year. The Alexandria Kiwanis Club makes this presentation to someone who has served beyond the call of duty.

The club gives these awards to firefighters and teachers as a way to recognize public servants who are important to the community.

SACS Puts LC on Probation Again

Louisiana College is on probation again by the Southern Association of Colleges. Issues are trustee board governance, institutional integrity, personnel and audit of financial matters.
A statement from the school says the decision is disappointing, but is an opportunity for the new president to address these problems.

CLECO Could be Sold or Aquired

It appears that CLECO is about to be sold or acquired. Though there’s no official word from the Pineville-based utility, the word out of Wall Street is Goldman Sachs has been retained to advise on a sale.

State to Begin Drawdown of Saline Lake

The state is announcing a draw-down of Saline Lake in Winn Parish starting July first. This is to help control aquatic vegetation in the lake, but it will not be closed to fishing.

Local Legislators Actively Opposing New Bridge Name

There’s more fall-out from that bill which re-names the bridge now being built across the Red River. Alexandria State Representative Lance Harris and Natchitoches Senator Gerald Long say they both have contacted the governor asking him to veto house bill 1140.
