LA Harvest Season Begins

Harvest season has started in Louisiana.  Crops such as rice, soybeans, sugarcane and cotton all get picked from the fields in late summer and fall.  Corn is one of the first crops to get harvested.

Alexandria Zoo Prepares for Opening of New Exhibit

A prominent businesswoman sells her collection of McDonald’s franchises to her family.  Glenda stock says her five restaurants now belong to her brother and sister-in-law, Terry and Carita Wilburn.

Stock and her late husband came here in 1996.

Coliseum Project Begins Again

The Rapides Coliseum renovation project is starting again after being stalled for a while.
The Rapides Parish Police Jury has voted to change architectural firms.  Police Jury President Joe Bishop says this assures the project will remain on budget, which is good news for taxpayers.

Multi-Million Dollar Marijuana Bust in Vernon Parish

Authorities in Vernon Parish make a multi-million dollar marijuana bust.

New A/C Units Installed in Hotel Bentley

New air conditioning units are installed at the Hotel Bentley.  This is part of the remodeling that’s been underway for several weeks.  The historic hotel may be open by the fall.

Jenkins is turning the hotel into a boutique and condos.  Work is underway on both components of the new hotel.

Local Group Questions Plans for Huey Long Hospital

A reality show star from West Monroe lends his celebrity to the adoption efforts in Louisiana.  Willie Robertson of Duck Dynasty is helping out the state’s foster care program.

He recently participated in a Family Forum program to encourage churches to urge adoptions.
