Area Shoppers Take Advantage of Tax Holiday, Sales

Back-to-school shoppers get a bit of a break this weekend and who doesn’t like a sale? Today and tomorrow, area shoppers are taking advantage of an annual sales tax holiday as they prepare to get back to school.

Alexandria police arrest a man from Ball for the break-in of a home in the 29 hundred block of Jackson early yesterday. 41-year-old Damian Aucoin is charged with burglary.

As of Today Public Colleges, Universities Go Smoke-Free

Today is the first day of no smoking at public colleges and universities. Teachers, students, staff and even visitors are being warned: light up, and you can be fined.
The Louisiana statehouse ordered all institutions of higher learning, and that includes the VO-Tech schools, to become tobacco-free by this date.
