University Academy Exceeding Enrollment Expectations

The University Academy at LSU of Alexandria opens its doors this fall as a laboratory school. Heather Poole says the school has been enrolling students for this latest venture.

The academy provides an early college and high school model to blend the two. That way, students can earn college credit while they attend high school.

2 Arrested for Operating Meth Lab

Grant Parish deputies make two arrests in connection with a reported meth lab in the Verda community.
37-year-old Christopher Chad Desoto of Dry Prong and 39-year-old Candy Ryan of Winnfield are charged with operation of a meth lab plus other related charges. The arrests were made over the weekend.

Police Solve Burglaries at LC

Pineville police say they’ve solved burglaries at Louisiana College that happened in recent months. They arrested 24-year-old Dominic Jamal Graham of Pineville for break-ins at the Weathersby Fine Arts Building and from other places on campus.
Pineville police say mostly electronic items, including computers, were taken.

Judge Randow Officially Announces Candidacy Despite Age

An incumbent state district judge in Rapides Parish officially announces his candidacy today, even though statewide voters must approve a change to the constitution for him to serve.

Officials Order Drawdown of Black-Clear Lake

State officials are ordering a drawdown for Black-Clear Lake near Campti.
This is done in many bodies of water this time of year to reduce aquatic weeds.
The gates will be closed no later than the end of January.

Boil Advisory Lifted for Latanier

A boil advisory for the Latanier water system is lifted.
The boil advisory was imposed when the city of Alexandria had a water main break, and that cut off the water supply to a couple of rural water systems.

Opelousas Man Found Guilty of Bankruptcy Fraud

An Opelousas man pleads guilty in federal court in Lafayette to bankruptcy fraud. 67-year-old Kiby Daigle concealed income from his bail bond business.
He will be sentenced in September and faces up to 5 years in prison and a fine.

Man Arrested for Child Pornography in Warrant Issued 2 Years Ago

40-year-old Brandon Wynn is arrested for 12 counts of pornography involving juveniles and a weapons offense.
