Natchitoches Officer Arrested for Raping Female Inmate

A Natchitoches Parish corrections officer who had just been promoted to a supervisory position is now in jail himself, charged with raping a female inmate.
He’s 28-year-old Lindsey Webster Hoke.

Traffic Stop Leads to Gun, Drug Arrests

Alexandria police say a routine traffic stop results in the arrests of a man and woman. They’re 78-year-old Melvin Sigur and 32-year-old Lekedra Quinney, both of Alexandria.
Sigur is charged with possession of a gun with drugs. Quinney is charged with drug possession and resisting arrest.

Jena Woman Dies in Crash

A single vehicle crash in LaSalle Parish kills a woman from Jena. She’s 47-year-old Amy Webb.
Troopers say it happened yesterday afternoon on Highway 127 when she lost control of her SUV, hit a dirt embankment, and turned over several times.
She was not wearing a seat belt.

Man Arrested for Pistol-Whipping Another

Grant deputies arrest a man for pistol-whipping another in the Bagdad community. 64-year-old Moses Bush of Colfax is now charged with aggravated battery, illegal carrying of a weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The arrest was made after a patrol deputy was flagged down at a convenience store.

Cheneyville Goes Smoke Free

Yesterday the town celebrated turning the historic town into a 100 percent, smoke-free community. They celebrated with a recognition dinner for Mayor Derrick Johnson and others who worked to make this a reality.

Kennedy: Federal Law Will Force Taxpayers to Pay for Sex Change Operations

State Treasurer John Kennedy is complaining about a federal law he says will force taxpayers to pay for sex change operations. Kennedy says these added costs point out why Louisiana should fix its Medicaid program before it goes into bankruptcy.

He says both Medicare and Medicaid are approaching insolvency.
