Charlie Dewitt Considers Running for Alexandria Mayor

Will Alexandria Mayor Jacques Roy have a familiar name on the ballot opposing him?
One well-sourced blogger says some around the city are recruiting former state representative and house speaker Charlie Dewitt as a candidate.
And, Dewitt acknowledged he’s looking at the race. We’ll know by the end of next week, when qualifying is completed.

The woman serving as interim Pineville and Ward Marshal will run for the full term in November. She took over after the recent sudden death of Marshal Larry Jeane.
Smith had served as chief deputy under both Gus Perry and Jeane. She says those families are supporting her in her campaign.

Groundbreaking Held for New Elementary School at Fort Polk


Fort Polk is in a fight for its life, facing possible federal budget cuts.
However, a groundbreaking was held this morning for a new elementary school that could help the image for the historic U.S. Army base. As Bennett Roland Junior reports, it will be a state-of-the art facility.

Single Vehicle Crash Kills Man From Flatwoods

A single vehicle crash kills a man from the Flatwoods community. Troopers say 62-year-old Gaylon Bolton lost control of his car while speeding on Highway 8 on Smith Lane in Vernon Parish last night. He ran into trees then rolled his car.
Bolton was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle.

Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest


An Alexandria man is arrested for possession of narcotics with intent to distribute.
Police say they stopped Jara Williams early yesterday for driving without headlights. They arrested him on Broadway after they say they found crack, money, and drug paraphernalia in his car.

Man Jumps Out of Car While Moving Triggering Arrest


During patrol, an APD Officer observed a convertible Oldsmobile in the 3600 block of Coliseum Blvd. Neither the driver nor passenger had on seat belts. When the officer attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle fled passing several other vehicles on the shoulder of the road.

Construction Begins Tomorrow on Pineville Expy

Tomorrow, construction work begins on the Pineville Expressway. Highway officials say the work will be done overnight on the northbound off-ramp connecting the Pineville Expressway to the Shamrock and Downtown Pineville exit.
Construction work will also continue on the southbound off ramp from the Expressway to Highway 28 East.

McAllister Seeks Re-Election Despite Loss of Duck Dynasty Endorsement

Incumbent 5th district Congressman Vance McAllister is seeking re-election.
That’s despite a loss of support from the Duck Dynasty reality show friends. They’re now endorsing a relative instead of McAllister.

He’s one of seven seeking the seat. While some others in the race are flush with cash, federal campaign finance records show McAllister is deep in debt.
