2 Jailers Injured During Escape Attempt

Two jailers are hurt after an attempted escape last night in Vernon Parish. Deputies arrested Jose Ayala III and Joshua Griffin, both of Leesville.
Deputies say the escape attempt happened while jailers were giving medical assistance to another inmate.

Vernon Parish authorities are trying to locate 34-year-old Jeremiah Lee Bell of Leesville. He’s wanted on active warrants for domestic abuse from Leesville PD.
He’s 5 foot 6 inches, weighs about 150 pounds and has distinct tattoos on his neck.

Alexandria police say there’s been an increase in tire and wheel thefts in recent months. They say it’s happening citywide. Typically, they say, a homeowner goes to his vehicle and finds it sitting on blocks.

Sanders Murder Trial to Begin Next Week

Opening arguments are expected next week in federal court in the capital murder trial of Thomas Steven Sanders.
The 57-year-old man is accused of slaying a 12-year-old girl 4 years ago. The prosecution is asking for the death penalty.

Obstruction of Justice Arrest Made in Homicide Case

Another arrest is made in the murder of a Rosepine man who went missing in March.
Robert Worth of Leesville is charged with obstruction of justice in the disappearance and slaying of James Stephens.  Sheriff Sam Craft says Worth withheld crucial information about Stephens’ disappearance.
Worth is being held in the Vernon Parish Jail.

Motorcyclist Killed by Suspected Impaired Driver

State police say an Allen Parish motorcyclist was killed last night by a suspected impaired driver in Jeff Davis Parish. He’s 54-year-old Brian Hackenbruch of Kinder.
Troopers say Clayton Jack Junior of Ville Platte crashed head-on into Hackenbruch on Highway 383 near Iowa.
The accident is under investigation and no charges have been filed yet.

Lecompte Man Arrested for Delinquency of 2 Young Girls

A 21-year-old Lecompte man is arrested for contributing to the delinquency of 2 young girls who reportedly ran away from home. Jarrious Deloach is also accused of violating parole.
The girls and Deloach were located on Wednesday and they have been turned over to juvenile justice authorities.

Soldier’s Lawyer Asking for Bond to Be Significantly Reduced

A request to reduce the bond on a Fort Polk soldier shot by an Alexandria policeman could be heard as early as the week of September 8th. The lawyer for Mitchel Ryan Bethin is asking that his 100 thousand dollar bond be significantly reduced. The case is assigned to Judge John Davidson.
