2 New Candidates Enter Alexandria Mayor’s Race

There are two new candidates in the race for Alexandria mayor. Jeff Hall, who’s been a lobbyist for CLECO, announced this morning he’s running.

Hall’s announcement comes on the heels of one made by Mitzi LaSalle. She held a rally at City Park Friday night.

On July 19th, 2014, Deputies from the Deville Substation responded to the 400 Block of Barney Rush Rd. Deville, LA in reference to theft of a motor vehicle. Upon the deputies arrival, the victim had no information about a suspect.

On July 25, 2014, Alexandria Police responded to a reported burglary 1200 Block of Broadway Ave. The complainant/witness reported seeing two male subjects enter a residence and take a Freezer and AC unit. A description of the subjects and vehicle used was given to officers.

On July 25, 2014, Alexandria Police responded to a reported battery in the 100 Block of Mary Street. Upon arrival, officers located a male subject that had been stabbed.

Basile Housing Authority ED Accused of Theft of Public Funds

State authorities issue a critical audit for the housing authority of Basile in Evangeline Parish.
The Louisiana Legislative Auditor says the housing authority’s executive director Anisa Richardson used almost eight thousand dollars in tenant fees over a two-year period for her personal use.
The investigative audit has been sent to criminal authorities.

Alcohol Suspected in Weekend Crash

State police suspect alcohol in a crash that killed a man in Natchitoches Parish just after midnight Saturday on Highway 174.
Troopers say Wallace Jones of Pleasant Hill was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially thrown from his pick-up. Investigators say he apparently lost control and hit a ditch before overturning.

Police Arrest Murder Suspect After Man Hunt

Julius Jamal Garnett, age 28, of 4015 Lakeside Drive, Alexandria, LA is in custody after a 24 hour manhunt. Garnett surrendered to Alexandria Police Detectives at approximately 7:00 p.m. on July 26. Undercover Operation Leads to Arrest of Alleged Drug Dealer

Grant deputies say they’ve arrested a Montgomery man for drug distribution. Bobby County Junior was arrested today for selling meth, possession and drug paraphernalia.
The sheriff says the arrest wrapped up an undercover investigation into sales in the Montgomery area.

3 Arrested for Having Drugs Around Children

Three Grant Parish men are arrested for having drugs around children in the Verda community: Ryan Johnson, of Montgomery, Larry Dubois of Colfax and Franklin Davis of Montgomery.
Grant deputies say the 3 were handling drugs in the presence of eight children. They face several charges.
