Veteran Present at Iwo Jima Speaks to Civic Group Today

Whenever you see the iconic picture of U.S. soldiers raising the flag on Iwo Jima during World War Two, you might think of Al Wilson. Now in his 90s, he was there and remembers the famous scene on Mount Surabachi.

He spoke to a civic group in Pineville today.

Public Invited to Recreation Summit

Alexandria residents are invited to a 3-day recreation summit that starts tomorrow morning at the performing arts center downtown. The event is for planning how the newly approved recreation tax will be used.

The meetings are free, open to the public, and there will be interactive activities between residents and the city officials.

U.S. Senator David Vitter repeats his support of common core for a Better Business Bureau meeting in Baton Rouge. This places Vitter squarely in opposition to Governor Bobby Jindal who is trying to undo the evaluation system in Louisiana.
