A local hotel this morning celebrates a grand re-opening. The Chamber Red Coats cut the ribbon for the Value Place on MacArthur Drive.
The owners say they offer affordable, clean, safe and simple temporary housing for visitors and business travelers.

Boggy Bayou Boat Launch at Spring Bayou WMA to Close Temporarily for Ramp Improvements

The Boggy Bayou boat launch at Spring Bayou Wildlife Management Area near Marksville will be closed from July 14 through July 18, 2014. The closure is necessary for installment of the new floating boat dock that is part of the planned improvements to the ramp.

Foster Walker Named Dealer of the Year

Alexandria auto dealer Foster Walker III is named 2014 Dealer of the Year. The award came this month at the 76th convention of the Louisiana Automobile Dealers Association.
Walker is president of the Walker Automotive Group, which was founded in 1919 by his grandfather.

Fund Set Up for 9 Children Orphaned by Murder-Suicide

A fund has been set up for the nine children left orphaned by a murder suicide in Opelousas.
On July 4th, police say Kerry Varis shot his wife Nancy at a family gathering on West Prudhomme Street. Witnesses say he then turned the gun on himself.

Jena Lions Club to Host Golf Tournament

A 2-man golf scramble to benefit the good works of the Jena Lions Club will be held Friday at Oak Wing Golf Course.
The club will use the funds to pay for their children’s camp and eye screenings.

Cheneyville Goes Smoke Free

You better be careful about lighting up a cigarette in the town of Cheneyville.
Yesterday the town celebrated turning the historic town into a 100 percent, smoke-free community. They celebrated with a recognition dinner for Mayor Derrick Johnson and others who worked to make this a reality.
