Residents of the Garden District in Alexandria are creating their own community garden. Bennett Roland Junior says it’s a project that will provide vegetables and herbs for those willing to get their hands dirty.

Family and friends welcome Louisiana National Guard soldiers home from Kuwait. The 844th and the 1021st Engineer Companies are coming home today.
The 844th is based in Pineville with two detachments in Ruston and Monroe. They deployed 160 soldiers to support Operation Enduring Freedom. They conducted operations to maintain and upgrade base camps.

Wanna-be forest rangers are in the Kisatchie today. 30 high school seniors are learning about jobs with the U.S. Forestry Service. The program is co-sponsored by Southern University.
Various rangers described their training and their work in the forest. They also showed these students what kind of work life they would have as a forest ranger.
Rapides Parish librarian Steve Rogge is in his final days at his office before retirement. We asked him his plans for the future.
He will be succeeded by Laura Ellen Ayres, who has been on his staff.

The numbers are in and it was a sell-out with more then 350 participants. And, they say they raised some 100 thousand dollars to stay right here in Central Louisiana.

Dog lovers are at it again. They sold plates of jambalaya today to help the rescue efforts of Boudreaux’s Animal Rescue Krewe better known as BARK. BARK operates a no-kill shelter and is dedicated to finding good homes for all the pets.
