Sci-Port Museum Not Just for Kids

When you’re traveling around the state this summer, you might want to check in at Sci-Port. This elaborate science museum has interactive displays.
It’s near the banks of the Red River in Shreveport.

Sci-Port has traveling exhibits, which go to schools and special events throughout the state.

First Weeks Starts for Miss LA 2014

It’s the first week on the job for miss Louisiana 2014.
Lacey Sanchez of Baton Rouge won the crown after competing with 31 other young women all vying for scholarship money. Sanchez competed as Miss Lafayette.
She’s an LSU senior, where she competed on the track and field team.

Alexandria All-Stars Win State Championship

Congratulations to the Alexandria All-Stars. These 6-year-old athletes won the state championship played in Shreveport yesterday. They went undefeated in the state tournament, plus they won their district title in Olla the previous weekend.
Their coaches are Buck Evans, Jamar Gailes, John Extine and Rose Townsend.

Pineville City Hall Closed Due to No A/C

Pineville City Hall is closed until tomorrow morning at 8, because the central air conditioning has gone out.
City officials say the 40-year-old unit died on Saturday. They hoped to be back up and running this afternoon, but it will take a while to cool down the building.

Rock the Red Event Draws Crowd Downtown

We hope you had a grand Independence Day weekend.
This was the scene on the banks of the Red River Friday night. The City of Alexandria sponsored its annual Rock the Red event at the amphitheater. There was music followed by a fireworks display.

The oldest Independence Day parade in the state is tomorrow night in Marksville. And, there’s more to do all month in Avoyelles Parish.

Peason Wildlife Management Area Adds 18k Acres

The state is adding almost 18 thousand acres to the Peason wildlife management area. That action came today in Baton Rouge.
This particular management area is north of Leesville in Sabine, Natchitoches and Vernon parishes.
