A new play is opening at the Hearn Stage in downtown Alexandria. It’s about a small Georgia town and features local actors.
The production continues tomorrow and Saturday night at 7:30 with a Sunday matinee. The schedule is repeated again starting next week on Thursday night.

The City Park Players’ production of Second Samuel opens tomorrow night.
It’s the story of a lazy little Georgia town in the 1940’s. They’ve experienced the end of World War Two and the election of Harry Truman. But, it’s also the summer when the town piano teacher passes, and it turns out she had some secrets.
Services for Pineville and Ward Marshal Larry Jeane will be held Thursday morning at 10 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Pineville.
Jeane died Sunday as a result of injuries sustained in an auto accident. He was 68.

Campers at the Alexandria Museum of Art are learning the ancient art of shadow puppetry. The theme for the camp is “Playing in the Shadows”.
Instructor Cindy Blair is teaching these budding artists how to make their own shadow puppets. They’re also learning to create stop-motion animation shorts and the stars are their creations.

A vet camp is being held this week at the TREE House Children’s Museum. These campers get to play with animals for this weeklong experience at the children’s museum. Their theme is “Get Set to Be a Vet.”
It’s sponsored by Proctor and Gamble. And, we may have among these campers some future veterinarians or zookeepers.
The premiere performances at the Gwartney on the LSUA campus begin Thursday. It will feature a special production, “An Evening with Richard”, when friends of his are converging on stage to recall his life and work.
The late Richard Gwartney was a theater professor at LSUA and was responsible for many productions there.

A skeet-shooting tournament is slated for next month and sponsored by the Generals Athletic Association. It will raise money for the LSUA program.
