Candidates for offices ranging from Justice of the Peace to U.S. Senator are signing up and paying their fees today. Local candidates are filling out paperwork today through Friday in the Clerks of Court offices throughout the state.
This was the scene at the Rapides Parish Courthouse this morning. There will be a steady stream of customers here and in Baton Rouge all week. These candidates are qualifying for the November 4th primary.
Many have already announced, and some will walk in at the last minute, which would be 4:30 Friday afternoon.
Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo qualifies today in Baton Rouge for the crowded 5th District Congressional race.
At least 6 men, including the incumbent, have announced, but Mayo has been the lone democrat.
Qualifying for the election continues through Friday afternoon at 4:30.
