BESIE Reviews State Funding for K-12

State educators are mulling over the state funding formula for K through 12 public schools.

The State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, known as BESIE, adopted the formula late last week. BESIE determines how much money each school district will receive. The formula includes a modest funding increase. This means an added 36 million dollars for local schools throughout the state.

The formula also includes extra money for special-needs children. And the board voted against allowing schools to opt out of the common core tests without lowering performance scores.
