Simpson Woman Arrested for Sexual Conduct with Student

Vernon deputies say they’ve arrested an area substitute teacher for inappropriate behavior with a student.
Deputies say 39-year-old Cindy Martinez of the Simpson community had sexual relations with a 17-year-old student.  She’s charged with prohibited sexual conduct between and educator and a student.

New Legislative Session to Begin March 2nd

Pineville Mayor Re-Elected Without Opposition

Pineville Mayor Clarence Fields will serve another 4-year term.  Qualifying ended late Friday and Fields was elected without opposition.
These are the spring elections, with the primary held on April 5th, and run-off’s, where needed, held on May 3rd.

Marksville Couple Honored for 83-year Marriage

On Valentine’s Day, friends and family honor a couple that has been married for 83 years.  In fact, Norman and Norma Burmah of Marksville are believed to be the longest married couple in the state of Louisiana.

State Senator Gallot Files E-Cigarette Bill

One area senator is going after sales of e-cigarettes to minors.  Rick Gallot has filed a bill in the upcoming session to regulate those sales.

That measure is Senate Bill 12.

NSU To Go Smoke-Free

Another Central Louisiana university will go smoke-free.  Northwestern says it will rid itself of tobacco by August 1st.  LSU of Alexandria made the announcement last week to do the same.
It will cover all interior spaces at NSU and branch campuses, all vehicles, moving or parked, and apply to faculty, staff, students and visitors.

2 Allen Parish municipalities will need to comply with critical audits.
The parish seat, Oberlin, is being cited by the auditor for at least 9 issues, some of which could be violations of state law or the constitution.
