Police Make Arrest in Homicide Investigation

A man is dead and police make an arrest in a shooting on Monroe Street.
It happened yesterday afternoon in the parking lot of the save more convenience store in the 29 hundred block of Monroe.
Police say the victim is 25-year-old Denardo Boyd of Alexandria.

Clyde Holloway Hospitalized from Stroke

Area Public Service Commissioner Clyde Holloway is hospitalized with what’s described as a mild stroke.
An assistant says his tests are good, and his doctors expect a full recovery. They say he should be out of the hospital within a day.

School Board Rejects Charter School Application

The Rapides Parish School Board rejects a school application filed by Louisiana Charter Foundation. The corporation is applying for type-one charter schools throughout the state, including Alexandria.
The parish superintendent recommended against the application, saying the group seemed unfamiliar with the Rapides School System. The board vote was unanimous.

Rapides Libraries To Gain New Director

The new Rapides Parish library director is Laura Ellen Ayres, who will succeed Steve Rogge as of July 1st. She’s currently serving as assistant director and has been with the system 32 years.
Rogge is retiring.
The library board voted to hire her this afternoon.
