Chamber Infrastructure Chairman Speaks to Rotary Today

The local Chamber of Commerce has a special committee to address infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and sewers.
The chairman of that committee, Jonathan Deen, today talks to the Rotary Club about how this affects economic development.

The committee members often connect with members of the legislative delegation for state help with projects.

LA, Rapides Parish Schools Earn B on Report Card

Report cards for schools throughout the state are out. Louisiana earned a B and that’s what Rapides Parish Schools also earned, but there are four failing schools.

Those schools with A’s are J.I. Barron, Peabody Montessori, Poland Junior High, Rosenthal Elementary, Rubywise and Phoenix Magnet. These grades are for the 2013-2014 school year.

Deputies Investigate 2nd Inmate Death This Month

Rapides Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating another inmate death, though they say there are no signs of foul play.
Deputies say 24-year-old Robert Keith Rachal Junior of Deville had a seizure yesterday afternoon in the downtown jail and fell off his bunk. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he died today.

Blowout Causes Double Fatality in Natchitoches Parish

A weekend accident kills an unbuckled child in a double fatality. State police say it happened in Natchitoches Parish on the interstate. 38-year-old Carl Bergeron and 13-year-old Hailey Castille, both of Opelousas were killed.
Troopers say it happened when the SUV he was driving had a tire blowout. The driver lost control and rolled.

Arkansas Man Turns Himself in on Firearm Charge

Rapides deputies arrest an Arkansas man for assault with a firearm on a victim on Philadelphia Road in early September. He’s 68-year-old Bobby Gene Gilliam, who reportedly fled the scene for Arkansas.
Deputies called him to tell him about the warrant for his arrest, and they say he returned and voluntarily surrendered.

Critical Audit Says Catahoula Hospital District Lost $10k

A critical audit is issued for the Catahoula Parish Hospital District.
Officials with the legislative auditor say the hospital has lost nearly 10-thousand dollars in fuel charges in the last two years because of unauthorized credit card charges.
