Saint Mary’s Residential Training School is a historic facility in Rapides Parish. It was founded at a time when there were few schools helping disabled children.
Today, a local Kiwanis Club hears about their current programs.

Buddy Caldwell Warns of IRS Scam

State Attorney General Buddy Caldwell says some Louisianans are receiving threatening phone calls that are scams. The callers say they’re from the IRS and demand immediate payment.
The IRS does not contact people by phone. Officials say just hang up, and never give the caller any personal information.

Opelousas Man Sentenced in International Fraud Scheme

A federal judge in Lafayette sentences an Opelousas man in an international scheme to defraud banks and victims. 49-year-old Nelson Durald is sentenced to a year and 11 months in prison for his part in what is described as a secret shopper program.

APD Awaits Extradition of Teen Accused of Bomb Threats

A teenager faces serious charges tonight after he’s accused of phoning in a bomb threat yesterday. The bomb threat disrupted the day at four Rapides Parish schools.
17-year-old Reuben Byon of Fredericksburg, Texas is accused. Extradition efforts are underway. He will be charged with communicating false information of a planned bombing on school property.
