Teacher of the Year Addresses Rotary Club

Rotarians hear from a teacher of the year who serves students in Ouachita Parish. We asked her how she attracts students to the teaching profession.

She’s currently curriculum coordinator and school technologist at the junior high. She serves in Monroe and is an adjunct instruction at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

Supporters of Huey Long Hospital meet to talk about their options. The historic hospital was shuttered a week ago.
Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has been turning over the so-called charity hospitals to public private entities run locally by Cabrini and Rapides Regional Hospitals.

Diners at IHOP are participating in a birthday. The company is 56 years old, so they’re selling short stacks of pancakes for 56 cents.
There are more than 16 hundred restaurants nationwide and in several other countries. The company is headquartered in Glendale, California.

Overturned Kayak in Red River Causes Scare

Fire rescue officials gathered on the Red River this morning near the Purple Heart Bridge looking for a possible missing kayaker. It turned out there was no emergency.
It started when a passerby saw an overturned kayak in the Red River. That drew officials from Pineville, Alexandria and the Rapides Sheriff’s Office.

Alexandria police arrest two brothers for the hold-up of a man at gunpoint yesterday in the 500 block of Richmond Avenue. Jimique Tison and Eric Tison II are both from Alexandria.
Nobody was hurt, but police say the two took electronic items and ran off.

Walmart Shopper Knocked Unconcious and Robbed

Pineville Police say a shopper at Wal-Mart was struck from behind and knocked unconscious yesterday while loading her merchandise. Police are searching for a man driving a silver Chevrolet Equinox, shown in this video surveillance picture.

It’s near the banks of the Red River in Shreveport.

Pineville Man Accused of Inappropriate Behavior with a Child

A Pineville man is arrested for inappropriate behavior with a child. He’s 41-year-old Christopher McGrew.
Deputies say the complaint was forwarded to them Sunday from a local hospital.
He’s in jail under a quarter of a million dollar bond.
