2 Arrested, 3rd Still Sought in Steel Theft

Pineville Police arrest 2 men and are seeking a third for the theft of some 20 thousand dollars in carbon steel plate from Hayes Manufacturing.
Bradley Ryder and Justin Lawrence, both of Deville were arrested. Ryder is charged with burglary and conspiracy. Lawrence is accused of burglary.

CLEDA Hosts Federal Reserve Executive

The Central Louisiana Economic Development Alliance features a regional federal banking official at today’s annual investor luncheon. It’s an appreciation event for the investors who participate in CLEDA. They invited Tom Cunningham, a regional executive with the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta to address the group.

Rapides Parish Fair to Move Near LSUA

Changes are coming in the 2014 fair schedule. It’s traditional home at the Rapides Coliseum will be undergoing major renovations.

The renovations are funded by a property tax approved by parish voters.

LC, NSU Offering ROTC Program

Louisiana College is partnering with NSU to provide students with an ROTC program starting this fall.
The students can take one Army ROTC class and lab per semester at NSU. They will be able to graduate as commissioned officers in the U.S. Army.

Monroe Businessman Joins Race for 5th District Seat

A Monroe businessman announces he’s running for the 5th Congressional District seat this fall.
48-year-old Harris Brown describes himself as a proven leader. He’s never held public office, but is serving on a number of boards and commissions.
He’s the son of State Senator Billy Brown, a well-known lawyer in Louisiana.

Over 150 LSUA Students Graduate Today

It’s graduation day for LSU of Alexandria. Friends and family members packed the Riverfront Center to honor the graduates.
The keynote speaker was King Alexander, LSU President and Chancellor. He’s been spending much of the spring in the halls of the state capitol, where the legislature decides on the budgets for the LSU system.

15-year-old E’mya Osteen is 5 foot 6 inches and weighs around 140 pounds. They believe she may be headed to New Orleans.

Convicted APD Officer May Have 50-Year Sentence Reduced

A former Alexandria police officer, convicted of improper behavior with a minor, will have a chance to have his 50-year prison sentence reduced. The appeals court says Walter Urena should have less than a 40-year sentence as part of his punishment, because he’s a first time offender.
